Purico Group Ltd
Purico Group
The Purico Group is named after its inspirational founder, Professor Nathu Puri CBE, who transformed a one-man consultancy into a global business spanning three continents.
Founded in 1983, Purico is now one of the biggest private family enterprises in the UK. With headquarters in Nottingham, it employs more than 3,000 people worldwide in the Automotive, Care, Construction, Hotel & Leisure, Investment, Paper and Property sectors.
Behind our remarkable growth is a story of extraordinary entrepreneurial flair. Professor Puri, affectionately known as ‘Nat’, arrived in England from India in the 1960s with little more than a maths degree.
Today his company generates a $450 million turnover. However, Nat’s vision was never limited to personal success. Inspired by his father’s generosity towards others, the dedicated philanthropist established charitable trusts which contribute an average of £500,000 a year.
In 2015, he was twice honoured for his contribution to charity and education. The Queen awarded him with a CBE, and he received the Pravasi Bharatiya award from the President of India. Through Nat’s business and charity activities, he has touched the lives of thousands of people in many countries.
Purico’s mission is to lead the way in all its enterprises, harnessing and developing new technology. In the last few years, the group has invested more than £150 million in the automotive sector alone.
The continual sharing of knowledge between even the most diverse strands of our business has formed a deep reservoir of expertise, enabling us to meet any new challenge with speed and efficiency.
This precious asset, together with our innovative instinct and willingness to reinvest in equipment, sharpens Purico’s competitive edge on the world stage.
Wherever you are in the world, you are more than likely to come across a Purico Group product today – whether it’s the paper in your tea bag, a prestige car badge, or the casing on the sausage you eat for dinner.
AUTOMOTIVE
The group’s automotive businesses embrace state-of-the-art plants in the UK, Germany, Mexico and the USA. Bettix Limited, Bolton Plastic Components Limited, Bolta US Ltd, Bolta Werke GmbH and Nicro Bolta S A are amongst the industry’s technical elite.
Purico is the sole supplier of the Mercedes and VW badge. Ninety per cent of Audi grills are made by us, while every Land Rover which rolls off the production line contains a plastic part manufactured at our site.
We are the go-to place for top end surface coated/plating vehicle parts and a market leader in the production of bespoke blow moulded components.
PAPER
We are market leaders in the paper industry with three modern factories in the UK and China operated by Devon Valley Limited, Union Papertech Limited and Zhejiang Minfeng Robert Paper Company Limited.
Purico is the second largest manufacturer of tea bag and coffee filtration paper on the planet, supplying the raw material for a staggering 90 billion tea bags a year. We are also responsible for half the global paper output for sausage casings.
CONSTRUCTION
Our reputation in construction is as strong as the steel we produce. One of our companies, Conder Allslade Limited, has helped shape Britain’s urban landscape, completing more than 1,000 major building projects. The list includes schools, hospitals, shopping centres and a large ferry terminal.
Netherton Building and Construction Company Limited is our house-building division. Trading as Netherton Homes, it is providing hundreds of new properties in the UK. The company was established in 1934, playing a major role in the expansion of Peterborough in the 1960s.
HOTEL AND LEISURE
We own a historic country hotel just 12 miles from the heart of London and have created a luxurious log cabin holiday complex in one of Britain’s most scenic spots.
The Grim’s Dyke Hotel is the former home of Sir William Gilbert, the famous librettist who helped create the Gilbert and Sullivan operas – still performed at the hotel today.
Dovestone Park enjoys a beautiful setting on the edge of the Peak District. The striking timber lodges are built to the highest specification, providing the perfect getaway for outdoor enthusiasts.
CARE
Purico is raising the bar in care standards, with two stand-out dementia-friendly homes for the elderly in Nottinghamshire and Hampshire.
Residents at the Ocean Breeze Nursing Home and Nottingham Care Village receive meticulous attention. Each individual is given a care plan tailored to his or her specific needs. Both homes are furnished to a very high standard, with regular activity programmes helping to create a stimulating environment.
INVESTMENTS AND PROPERTY
In addition to owning thousands of acres of land, the group has a considerable property portfolio. Examples include offices in central London, a shopping precinct in Birmingham, a large commercial site in Schönberg, Germany, and a four-storey industrial building in Philadelphia.

We run one of London’s top heritage hotels, two homes for the elderly providing personalised care packages, and a luxury holiday park set in one of the UK’s most beautiful regions.
Purico also owns numerous shopping centres, industrial units and development land, along with a strong investment portfolio and a thriving house-building division.
Our businesses are active in the following sectors:
The Purico Group is committed to the pursuit of excellence and innovation. We have invested heavily in new technology and a skilled workforce to develop the best products for the market.

Automotive
With advanced production facilities in the UK, Germany, Mexico and the USA, the Purico Group is a global leader in the design, manufacture and assembly of plastic parts for many of the world’s iconic car makers.
Purico has invested hundreds of millions of pounds in new engineering methods, machinery and buildings to meet the exacting demands of its many blue chip customers.
We are proud of our prestigious client list which includes Audi, Aston Martin, Bentley, Ferrari, Ford, Jaguar, Land Rover, Honda, Lamborghini, Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen.
Our success is down to delivering the highest quality products at the lowest possible unit price. Every item is made with absolute precision by a highly skilled workforce, utilising the latest blow moulding, injection moulding and cubic printing processes.
The metal plated and blow moulded engine products that leave our factory gates are designed to meet the excating performance levels demanded by our customers. Among the components we create are the very symbols of Mercedes and VW – Purico is the sole supplier of their highly prized chrome-plated badges. Nine out of ten Audi radiator grills in the current range are manufactured by us. Every new Land Rover contains a part made at a Purico factory.
We make thousands of car components, such as decorative door trims, wing mirrors, ends of exhaust pipes, heating and air conditioning ducts.
At all its sites, Purico is constantly pushing the boundaries of innovation and continually reinvesting in cutting-edge technology. Bettix Limited, Bolton Plastic Components Limited, Bolta US Ltd, Bolta Werke GmbH and Nicro Bolta S A are all leaders in their field.
Purico’s German operations are internationally renowned for producing specially moulded plastic with a painted, chrome or other metal finish. One site in Bavaria generates enough chrome plated plastic every day to cover an entire football field. The plant has the single largest operation of its kind in the world, supplying vehicle makers in Europe, Asia and North America.
Our UK businesses are world leaders in the production of bespoke blow moulded parts for a wide range of sectors including the automotive and the white goods industries. By investing heavily in the latest computer-aided design and multi-axis and sequential blow moulding technology, we have remained at the forefront of plastic moulding technology. The vehicle parts we supply include heating, ventilation/air conditioning ducts, and windscreen washer bottles.
The Mexican operation specialises in the production of chrome plated plastic parts. The company has one of the largest and most technically advanced production lines in the world, manufacturing products of unrivalled quality in Latin America.
Our new production facility in the USA is due to be in full swing by 2017. It will have the same huge capacity as the German and Mexican plants. The Alabama factory is strategically located near to existing Mercedes-Benz and VW operations, and other vehicle manufacturers in the region. It will join the Mexican plant in supplying the luxury 4x4 market throughout North America.
In response to the demand for ever more sophisticated and durable products, we have set up our own in-house research and development teams with separate technology and production departments. It is this investment and drive for excellence that has enabled us to maintain our lead position in the automotive supply chain since the turn of the last century.

Care
The Purico Group is committed to offering the highest standards in residential care, having spent around £6 million on developing its first two homes for elderly people. The emphasis is on providing highly personalised care plans which are regularly reviewed and modified.
Our aim is to provide a rapid, expert and friendly response in a home-from-home environment whenever one of our residents needs assistance.
The luxurious homes we operate in Nottinghamshire and Hampshire are geared towards creating a new benchmark in residential care. Professional help is constantly at hand for all residents, and the buildings have been specifically designed to help those with dementia. Colour-coded corridors guide residents back to their rooms. Family photographs or meaningful house numbers can be put on the door as an additional memory aid. Other features include wardrobes with see-through panels to remind people where clothes are kept.
Ocean Breeze in Barton on Sea opened in 2015, offering the best in day and respite care in a peaceful, but convenient seaside location. It was planned with the help of Diana Calella, an award-winning interior designer who adapts buildings to the needs of people with dementia.
Nottingham Care Village is a 58-bedroom centre offering 24/7 residential care in a picturesque setting near the village of Lambley. It opened its doors in 2016 and also contains a number of assisted apartments to help older people maintain their independence.
Other features include raised Jacuzzi baths, hair salons and treatment rooms. Dining rooms are small and intimate with residents choosing when and where they want to eat.
Both our care homes are as beautiful on the outside as they are on the inside, with attractively landscaped gardens. They also provide stimulating and varied activity programmes which include supervised visits to places of interest.
We place great emphasis on the rights and dignity of all residents, employing a generous complement of highly trained staff to ensure no one is kept waiting. Each person has a dedicated carer responsible for their wellbeing. This attention to detail is at the heart of our philosophy in the care sector.

Construction
The Purico Group plays a significant role in the construction industry, helping to transform Britain’s urban landscape with its high quality and innovative steel structures.
Purico acquired Conder Allslade Limited in 2008 – an iconic name which will forever be associated with the introduction of the portal frame in the 1950s. It remains at the forefront of the construction sector today, using the latest computer-controlled systems to design and manufacture steelwork for buildings the length and breadth of the country.
One of Conder Allslade’s most prestigious contracts was to supply and erect the steel for the Portsmouth’s international ferry terminal which handles two million passengers a year.
In total, Conder has completed more than 1,000 major construction projects. They include schools, hospitals, shopping centres, multi-storey car parks, cinemas, warehouses, leisure centres and stadiums. Its contribution to sustainable schemes is growing significantly.
In recent years, the firm has embarked on a vigorous expansion programme. As well as investing in cutting edge machinery, there are plans to increase the workforce at its 150,000 sq. ft. facility in Portsmouth.
Purico’s house-building arm is Netherton Building and Construction Company Limited, trading as Netherton Homes. Founded in the 1930s, it was responsible for building around half of the new homes built in Peterborough in the 1960s.
Netherton creates attractive properties providing all the comforts of 21st century living. An example of this is its 250-house development in Mapplewell, near Barnsley.
The company has an important part to play in Purico’s future as the group’s current land asset is sufficient to keep it fully occupied until around 2024.

Hotel & Leisure
The Purico Group entered the hospitality industry in 1996 with the purchase of a prestigious London hotel.
In 2015, the group added a luxury timber lodge holiday park in the glorious Peak District to its leisure portfolio.
Both investments reflect our policy of providing facilities for holidaymakers and visitors in magnificent rural settings, yet close to major cities.
It’s hard to believe the Grim’s Dyke Hotel in Harrow Weald is just 12 miles from the centre of the capital and three miles from the M1. The former home of Sir William Gilbert, who wrote the world famous Gilbert and Sullivan operas, is set in 40 acres of woodland, filled with wildlife, exotic shrubs and flowers.
The Grade II listed building was converted into a hotel in 1970. Its delightful gardens, designed by Lady Gilbert, have made it a popular venue for weddings, civil ceremonies and other private functions.
The hotel is widely known for its award-winning restaurant, home-grown produce, Gilbert and Sullivan nights, and Library Bar serving a superb choice of fine malt whiskies including its own premium limited addition whiskies.
It has been the location choice for many top film and TV directors over the years, featuring in around 50 popular productions, including The Avengers, The Saint, EastEnders, Holby City, Little Britain and The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, to name a few.
The English country house was rumoured to have been the back-up to the Bletchley Park codebreaking centre. Grim’s Dyke is near to Bentley Priory which was the RAF Fighter Command Centre during the Second World War.
Since 2013 it has traded as a Best Western Plus hotel to boost its international profile. Our main focus in the hotel business can be summed up with one word – "service".
The first 10 luxury log cabins at Dovestone Park opened in spring 2016 in an area renowned for its scenery and leisure activities. There will also be 9 Glamping pods that will open on the 1st of March 2017 with a further 5 Log cabins following on in early 2018. Each has two bedrooms, a lounge, kitchen, dining area, family bathroom and luxury outdoor hot tub big enough for four people.
The stylish Scandinavian-style accommodation offers all the benefits of modern-day living with large flat-screen TVs and highspeed WiFi internet. The beautifully built spa lodges are available to rent or buy.
In addition the site boasts ten smaller timber pod units with showers, micro kitchens and individual bathrooms. With a double bed and bunk bed in each one and cycle racks outside each pod.
Dovestone Park is near the village of Greenfield, and tourist attractions such as the Blue John Cavern. Holmfirth, the setting of TV sitcom Last of the Summer Wine and Compo’s Café, is also a short drive away. The leisure park is just half an hour by train from Manchester and also close to Sheffield, Dovestone is a paradise for ramblers, mountain bikers, anglers, birdwatchers, sailing enthusiasts and photographers.

Investments
The Purico Group invests millions of pounds a year. This activity is channelled through a range of investment, intermediate and ultimate holding companies in Britain, other parts of Europe and the USA.
One of these companies has recently invested in a euro-based Mezzanine fund and a development fund for India, financing the construction of hotels, shopping centres and apartments in cities across the country.
Closer to home in Nottingham, where Purico is based, we are a core investor in the Foresight Nottingham Fund which was created to help small and medium-sized enterprises in the area. In addition to supporting the fund financially, we are offering office space, free of charge for a limited period, to encourage businesses to move to the city.
The group has made a variety of investments in North America. These include a large industrial manufacturing facility, as well as a number of residential properties and stationery stores.
We have invested in private equity funds operated by major banks and venture capital funds, while one of our holding companies is an equity investor in a boutique finance house. This company also holds shares in privately and publicly quoted companies outside the group.
One of our more unusual investments was the purchase of a tea plantation producing fine Oolong tea which is widely considered to be the best in the world. It is grown in Anxi County, the tea capital of China, and costs around $150 per 20g of tea.
These are just some examples of the types of funds and projects we inject money into, illustrating the diversity of our investment vehicles. We are unable to disclose all of our interests due to commercial sensitivity.

Paper
Purico’s position as an international leader in the paper industry can be traced back to 1986 with the acquisition of UK cigarette paper manufacturer Robert Fletcher and Sons.
Today the group has some of the most advanced machinery in the world and is a major tea bag and coffee filtration paper supplier. Our companies produce the paper for billions of tea bags each year, consumed in countries as diverse as Russia and the USA.
We are responsible for a huge variety of high quality paper products, including nearly half of the global paper output for sausage casings. In addition, we are one of the largest suppliers of overlay papers for laminate flooring and kitchen work surfaces.
The Purico Group’s high-grade tea and coffee filtration papers are exported to 50 countries, and we are the leading supplier of tobacco paper to the Chinese market.
With two modern factories in the UK, we produce a variety of paper grades suitable for all machine types. As sole the supplier to Tassimo, we also enjoy a strong presence in the single-serve coffee business.
Our proud history of innovation continues to this day. The forerunners of our UK companies produced Bible paper and the bank notes for the British Empire. Today we employ cutting edge inclined-wire technology to ensure the highest quality and optimal efficiency.
Purico’s pioneering joint venture involving the Chinese National Tobacco Corporation in 1995 was a successful blend of Western technology and local expertise. Hailed as a glowing example of British-Sino collaboration, it paved the way for the formation of a new company producing more than 12,000 tonnes of speciality papers a year.
No job is too big or too small for our production lines across the group. While we have invested in the latest machinery to cope with high volume orders, we also have equipment geared specifically towards manufacturing small batches of tailor-made products.
The pragmatic approach of Purico’s expert technical teams means new products can be developed within a short timescale. Drawing on the group’s extensive knowledge bank, they are highly adept at getting the best out of raw materials.
Our worldwide sales network, consisting of eight offices and more than 20 local agents, also plays its part in maintaining Purico’s prominent place in the paper industry.

Property
The Purico Group has an extensive portfolio of commercial and residential property, as well as owning thousands of acres of land, mainly in the UK, Germany and USA.
Our estate portfolio is sufficient to keep our growing house-building division occupied until at least 2024, and we remain alert to opportunities to purchase more plots with development potential.
In addition to owning land and buildings, we sometimes act as retained consultants or project managers for a variety of retail and industrial schemes.
Through one of our companies, Purico was responsible for the design and construction of a Birmingham shopping centre leased to well-known High Street retailers such as ALDI, Greggs, Farmfoods and William Hill.
Another of our businesses owns 50 properties and 300 acres of land in the Peak District, including the site of our luxury timber lodge holiday park. In Barnsley, we have 100 acres of land where permission has been granted for over 200 homes, with 100 more planned.
Our portfolio also includes land in Devon, plus industrial sites in Northampton and Kent.
We have commercial premises in Bolton, the Isle of Man, London, Manchester and Nottingham. One of our most prestigious locations is a 12,500 sq. ft. office complex near Pudding Lane in central London.
In Germany, we own a retail development in the market town of Schönberg. One of the buildings is rented to the Norma supermarket chain. We have a large amount of land allocated for the expansion of the site to include a second supermarket and other shops.
In the USA, we acquired a large parcel of land for our new car parts plant in Alabama which allows plenty of scope for future expansion. We also have property interests in Michigan, Maryland and Pennsylvania.

About Us
The Purico Group is committed to investing in – and shaping – tomorrow’s technology.
Our companies share knowledge with each other across the world, giving us the capacity to expand and innovate. This portability of expertise, within and across our varied sectors, is one of Purico’s strengths.
Purico businesses relentlessly pursue technical excellence in everything they do. The foundations of the group’s success are based on:
- Developing a global technical capability
- Investing in new product growth
- Worldwide research
Investment, innovation and new technology are vital to our future.
We constantly strive to optimise productivity and the positioning of our products in the global marketplace.
The production strategies we adopt can improve our customers’ competitiveness. Giving them excellent value for money is at the heart of everything we do.
Businesses in different countries increasingly need to work with each other to prosper on the international stage. Over the decades Purico has entered into a number of productive partnerships. We have grown stronger by harnessing the local technology knowledge of our international business partners. We are happy to be judged by our ability to continually satisfy the needs of our customers, suppliers, employees, shareholders and the communities we serve.
Purico is an environmentally-conscious company, committed to reducing its carbon footprint. In the space of eight years, we have reduced our energy consumption by 16 per cent, saving millions of pounds.
Case studies
The following case studies demonstrate how the Purico Group has implemented its core principles in the manufacturing and service sectors.
Nicro Bolta S A, Mexico
Purico’s chrome plating facility opened in 2005, primarily to supply parts to Volkswagen’s plant in Mexico.
The German car giant approached one of our companies, Bolta Werke GmbH, to set up a new factory producing plated parts in Puebla.
Bolta already produced VW badges and decals in Germany, and had the required technical knowledge and skills. It was therefore able to pass on its expertise and enter into a successful joint venture with a local manufacturer. Within 16 months Nicro Bolta was fully operational, making plastic parts to meet Volkswagen’s rigorous standards.
Devon Valley Limited/Union Papertech Limited
These two prominent paper companies contribute significantly to maintaining the Purico Group’s standing as one of the world’s largest manufacturers of tea bag and coffee filtration paper.
Devon Valley and Union Papertech were originally owned by the Crompton Group which produced tea bags. When the group went into administration in 2006, Purico took the opportunity to acquire part of the business and turn it around.
A change in ownership and investment in new technology have enabled these businesses to improve processes and flourish. Today both firms are key suppliers of speciality papers to food and industrial markets across the world.
Dovestone Park
Land owned by the Purico Group in the Peak District National Park was the perfect place for us to develop a leisure facility that would appeal to lovers of the great outdoors.
The site, near the village of Greenfield, now houses a number of luxurious timber lodges and pods in the heart of the countryside. The glorious location is close to major cities and towns.
Dovestone Park’s two-bedroomed log cabins are available for sale or rent. Each has central heating, double glazing and a fully equipped kitchen, as well as all the latest gadgetry, including an iPad docking station, a large TV screen and multiple stereo speakers.
The development is very much in keeping with Purico’s aim of offering the best products and services throughout the world.

History
The seeds of the Purico Group were sown in 1983 when Professor Nathu Ram Puri CBE acquired F G Skerritt Limited, a long-established firm of mechanical and electrical engineers.
Professor Puri, fondly referred to as Nat, worked at the British company in the 1970s as an engineer. He was quickly promoted to a managerial role as his flair for business became apparent. His attention to detail and strong work ethic led to a dramatic increase in turnover. By the time he left to set up his own consultancy in 1976 he was responsible for more than half of the company’s profits.
Just seven years after his departure Nat returned as owner, having persuaded his bank, on the strength of his track record at Skerritts, to lend him the money to buy the business.
Originally from the Punjab in India, Nottingham has been Nat’s home for more than 40 years and he has the honour of being a Freeman of the City of Nottingham. He came to England in the 1960s armed with little more than a maths degree. The cheapest course he could find was in air conditioning and refrigeration at London South Bank University, where he completed a diploma in engineering and was later given an honorary doctorate of sciences.
In 2015, he was presented with the prestigious Pravasi Bharatiya award by the President of India. In the same year he received the CBE which was presented by Prince Charles. Both of these awards were for his enormous contribution to charity and education.
He also became patron of the 2015 Organising Committee of the World Hindu Economic Forum (WHEF). A passionate cricket fan, Nat is a prolific benefactor, having donated millions of pounds to many charitable and educational projects, mainly in England, India and Nepal.
His purchase of Skerritts, of Nottingham, was the catalyst for a rapid programme of acquisitions and consolidation.
In the early days, Purico’s activities were centred on traditional UK businesses, including Bolton Plastic Components Limited and Bettix Limited, manufacturers of plastic products. The group soon broadened its horizons, expanding into Europe, Asia and America.
Adding a well-known German motor parts manufacturer to the Purico stable in 1985 marked the start of a journey into new industries. Today Bolta Werke GmbH, which produces the VW and Mercedes car badges, is the single largest operation of its kind, supplying quality plastic car components to Europe, Asia and North America.
The Purico Group is continually on the lookout for fresh opportunities to extend its territories. A proud boast is that in 1995 it became one of the first companies in Britain to have a presence in China. The group’s Chinese company, Zhejiang Minfeng Robert Paper Company Limited, produces fine grade papers used in cigarettes sold worldwide.
Purico continually reviews world markets to maintain its position as one of the most diverse and successful private enterprises in the UK.
In 2016, the group opened a $50 million plant in Alabama, USA, eight years after entering into a joint venture with a Mexican company to supply VW. Both factories are key suppliers to the automotive industry.
Through continual growth and investment, Purico has become a major international force, employing more than 3,000 people in the UK, Germany, USA, Mexico, China, Hong Kong and Indonesia.
The group ‘family tree’ on the left illustrates the hugely varied sectors it competes in, while the timeline below charts the remarkable progression from one-man band to global conglomerate.

Charities
Sat Hasta Samahara, Sahastra Hasta Sankira is written in the Hindu scriptures and means ‘generate wealth with 100 hands and share it with 1,000 hands.’
This message underpins the Purico ethos. It is not just a successful, enterprising business. The group has a strong sense of corporate social responsibility, using its wealth to benefit people and organisations in need.
When founder Professor Nat Puri set out on his business voyage he made it his mission to help others.
As Nat explains, “Quite early on I found that just working for money would make me mad, so I had to have some other reason.”
He found his purpose in philanthropy, influenced by the example of his late father, Munna Lal Puri, a banker who would help the poor – even if it meant borrowing money.
Nat’s generosity earned him the respect of the entire community in the Punjab region of India where he lived. When his father passed away, the family was told to prepare lunch for up to 600 people during the traditional 14-day mourning period. Instead 1,500 flocked to his house, many of them crying at the loss of a man they regarded as their saviour.
In July 1988, The Puri Foundation was set up with a personal donation of £1 million from Professor Puri which was matched by Purico. Two other charitable organisations were later established – The Three R’s Education Trust and The Puri Foundation for Education in India.
The Puri family and charities donate an average of £500,000 a year to good causes, mainly in the UK, India, Nepal and Africa, making a huge difference to the lives of tens of thousands of people.
Education has been the main focus of the group’s charitable activities. One of its greatest achievements is in Nepal, where a campaign has been launched to tackle illiteracy. Through The Three R’s Education Trust, Purico has provided funding for 1,000 single-teacher schools, with about 45,000 pupils benefiting in remote areas.
The Puri Foundation for Education in India has spent more than £3 million on creating an Indian institute for advanced research in biology and biotechnology.
The Puri Foundation has built around 50 houses and a new school for 1,000 pupils in Mullanpur, where Professor Puri grew up, as well as financing other school buildings in the Punjab.
In Nottingham, where the Purico Group has its headquarters, grants totalling tens of thousands of pounds have been handed out to buy computers and improve facilities at a string of local schools.
The foundation has also helped fund scholarships for overseas students at the city’s two universities and the London South Bank University, where Professor Puri studied. In 2011, the charity donated a further £1 million to LSBU to launch The Nathu Puri Institute for Engineering and Enterprise.
Providing humanitarian aid has long been high on the agenda. Following the 2001 Gujarat earthquake, which killed 25,000 people and left thousands more homeless, £1 million was donated towards the reconstruction of 10 villages.
The group’s charities have provided much needed cash for medical research and recreational facilities, particularly for young people, at home and abroad.

Puri Foundation
Since its launch in July 1988, The Puri Foundation has handed out millions of pounds to support good causes in Nottingham, where it is based, and India.
The trust was set up with a personal donation of £1 million from founder Nat Puri. The Purico Group matched this amount. Today the foundation draws its income from its commercial property portfolio and land holdings, although Professor Puri continues to provide most of the funds.
The charity’s aims are to give financial assistance to those in extreme need, hardship or distress; to advance education; and to provide recreational facilities, especially for young people.
Requests for funding should be made in writing to the trustees of The Puri Foundation at Environment House, 1 St Mark Street, Nottingham, NG3 1DE. The trustees judge all applications on an individual basis. Payment will be made by cheque if the application is successful.

The Puri Foundation for Education in India
The Puri Foundation for Education in India is the registered charitable trust responsible for running the University and Institute of Advanced Research in Gandhinagar, the capital of Gujarat.
The foundation receives around £250,000 a year from The Puri Foundation to run the institute which carries out research in a number of important areas, including biology, biotech and genetics to name just a few.
The late President of India Dr Abdul Kalam opened the centre in April 2006 along with the current President Mr Narendra Damodardas Modi who was the Chief Minster of the state of Gujarat at the time.

The Three R’s Education Trust
The Three R’s Education Trust was set up in February 2004 by Purico founder Nat Puri to provide basic education and healthcare in deprived areas of India and Nepal.
One of its main activities has been to support a project aimed at eradicating illiteracy in remote parts of Nepal by establishing a network of one-teacher schools.
To date the trust has donated £625,000 to create 1,500 schools. They teachers are typically local young people who receive special training. Each class has between 25 and 30 pupils, typically aged five to 16, who study the three R’s, often under the shade of a tree.
The partner organisation in this scheme, Saraswati Vidyalaya, identifies villages in need of a school. It then finds and trains the teachers before opening the school. Each school is run on a budget of less than 75p a day. Information on sponsoring a one-teacher school in Nepal is available from 3R’s head office in Nottingham.
The trust has also financed repairs to school buildings in Kenya.
