Purico has a long history of speciality paper manufacture, dating back to 1986, and owns a number of paper manufacturing companies, both in the UK and across Asia. The Group also has several associated sales offices in Europe and America. Through this network of companies, Purico is an established and recognised market leader, distributing a wide range of high quality paper products to a global client base in a range of market sectors.

Purico diversified into new markets in 2004, specifically sausage papers, overlay papers and filtration papers. The company claimed a fair amount of industry share in these new sectors and, from a standing start, the company now has a substantial share in this industry sector and is a credible number two within this global market.

Purico produce a diverse range of products ranging from; resin-impregnated filter paper for use in the automotive industry, hot beverage filtration paper, sausage casings, tobacco paper, packing cartons, overlay paper, and a number of other specialist long fibred papers for use in a range of industries.

Over recent years the Group has strategically redeveloped its tobacco papers business; acquired an automotive paper business and more recently developed a significant presence in the hot beverages filtration market through acquisition and investment in new inclined wire paper machines

The Purico Paper Group has six speciality paper manufacturing operations in the UK and China, concentrating on its core business markets, namely Zhejiang Purico Speciality Paper Company, Union Papertech Limited, Devon Valley Limited, Shandong Puri Filter & Paper Company Limited, Zhejiang Minfeng Robert Paper Company Limited and Anhui Jingfeng Paper Co Limited

Purico Paper Group is focused upon three distinct core markets:

• Food & Beverages Division
• Tobacco Papers Division
• Automotive Papers Division

In the automotive, cigarette paper and hot beverage filtration sectors, the Purico operations predominate as leaders in both the European and worldwide markets.

In the context of the tea / coffee filtration industry, the division is of world renown.

As with all Purico companies, the paper manufacturing division is technology driven and benefits from considerable investment in the latest production facilities. Through installation of the best machinery currently available, the Groups’ three primary manufacturers; Union Papertech and Devon Valley, both based in the UK, and Zhejiang Purico Speciality Paper Company, based in China, have the capacity to serve the world market in beverage filtration paper and overlay paper.

 Food & Beverages Division

There are three companies operating within this division concentrating on tea and coffee filtration paper, sausage casings and other speciality long fibred papers with manufacturing in UK and China. It has a capacity of over 25,000 tonnes per annum and employs over 250 people.

The Purico product line of tea and coffee filtration paper are made of oxygen-bleached or unbleached raw materials and are produced in two distinct categories; heat sealable and non-heat sealable.

Purico filtration papers are produced on either a triple-ply inclined former machine which was made in Germany or from established leading technology production lines. Purico filtration papers meet international food regulations and are suitable for many types of tea packing equipment.

In China, using the very latest state of the art inclined wire forming technology with a unique stock approach system these products are manufactured in a triple-ply structure – this results in the Purico products having excellent particle retention, superb flavour infusion, neutral odour and high wet strength. The triple-ply technology allows complete flexibility on the structure of the sheet and how it is formed giving the Purico product range numerous advantages over competitive products.

We can offer standard or custom designed tea and coffee bag papers in either plain appearance, perforated and / or decorated with a customer’s logo. Our products will run at high speed on all tea, coffee pod or pouch manufacturing equipment or specialty packaging machinery giving excellent operational efficiency.

We are constantly developing our product range in conjunction with our highly skilled technical staff and customer representatives to ensure our products are optimised and achieving superior runability in all applications.
The division is also a significant supplier of sausage casing papers, overlay papers and other speciality papers.

Tobacco Papers Division

Purico has a long history in the supply of leading quality papers to the tobacco industry. In recent years it has strategically relocated its manufacturing within China, combining local knowhow and knowledge of international markets to supply both into the Chinese markets and rapidly develop its sales globally using its efficient facilities. It supplies a comprehensive range of cigarette papers, porous plug wrap and high porous plug wrap papers.

Cigarette paper is developed and produced by our advanced paper machines to ISO9001:2000 international standards for tobacco products.

The papers high physical performance, porosity, strength and appearance with clear mark in different intensities, meet the needs of the global cigarette industry. Starting from 25 Coresta Units in substances between 25 to 34 gsm, with all common additives we offer a wide range of cigarette papers to our national and international customers.

Purico also supplies a wide range of porous and high porous plug wrap papers up to 26,000 coresta. These papers, which wrap the outer layer of the cigarette’s filter plug, play a significant part in the prevention of the inhalation of substances such as tar, nicotine and carbon monoxide.

Coloured cigarette papers and porous plug wrap papers complete the extensive selection of Purico Group’s tobacco paper.

Automotive Papers Division

Shandong Puri Filter & Paper Products Limited is a joint venture formed by Binzhou Filter Paper Industry Co., Limited in China and Purico Group in UK. The company is the largest automotive filter paper producer in China as well as one of the biggest manufacturers of board cartons for packaging in Shandong Province. The main products are special paper such as automotive filter paper, label paper, card paper and adhesive paper and corrugated board cartons. The original production capacity for automotive filter paper was 2,800 tons/year. There is an increase of production capacity of 10,000 tons/year in 2006. The annual output of corrugated board cartons is eight million square meters. Meanwhile the company is the only one that could produce black core paper for cards in China.

“Green Bamboo” automotive filter paper is the main product of Shandong Puri Filter & Paper Products Limited. The paper is completely made of high quality imported pulp, without any pollution in the process of pulp making. This product belongs to the range of products especially encouraged by the Chinese government. Its quality is better than the same products from other domestic companies. The current production ability of our company holds more than 20% shares of the domestic market. Production scale of our company is the largest and product range is the fullest in China. The sales network has nearly covered the whole of China and has included all famous filter companies with whom the company has established a steady partner relationship. At the same time, the export business of the company is growing fast. In the first half of 2005, exported volume of our company accounted for 73.3% of China’s total export amount of this kind of products.

The newly-built project of high quality automotive filter paper is located in the Economic Development Zone of Binzhou. This new production site is of 310 Mu (Chinese measurement), i.e. 206,677 square meters. The planned production capacity in the first project period is 10,000 tons/year of high quality water-based and phenolic-based automotive filter paper. The main production equipments, quality control system and DCS are imported from Germany and USA. The European thermoset phenolic resin impregnation technology is introduced into the production to ensure that product quality meet the world-class level. Both of the water-based and phenolic-based lines would be put into production in the first half of 2006. At that time, Shandong Puri Filter & Paper Products Limited would possess the complete water-based and phenolic-based production lines whose products would satisfy the requirements of OEM and OES in the international markets and that would further consolidate the company’s leading status in China’s automotive filter paper industry.

Shandong Puri Filter & Paper Products Limited is the biggest producer of corrugated board cartons in Binzhou. Being a first class corrugated board carton manufacturer in China, the company has had a history of production for more than ten years. It has achieved “Shandong Province’s License of Export Packaging Quality” issued by the National Entry-Exit Commodity Inspection and Quarantine Department.
