Conder M&E is a multi disciplined building services contractor with strong sector experience and solid working relationships. The company undertakes projects the length and breadth of the UK with individual schemes currently being undertaken in excess of £5 million.

Brief description of the company / business

Conder M&E is one of the largest heating, plumbing and electrical engineering companies in the East Midlands. It employs some 300 people, with a turnover approaching £50m and it operates from branches in Nottingham and Birmingham.

Frequently working as principal and major sub contractor, Conder M&E has the skills to undertake large complex projects in a variety of sectors, and whatever the job, we approach it with the same rigour and forward thinking that has characterised our organisation.

Today the business is divided into four departments; mechanical services, electrical, plumbing and maintenance. Recently installed computerised design and drafting systems with automatic updating allow direct electronic input and transfer of information for efficient coordination with the professionals and other specialist contractors in the project team.

Efficiency of the installation process is also advanced and maintained at the leading edge of the industry with ongoing investment into the skills of the workforce and a wide range of on and off-site equipment.

In-house workshop facilities are used extensively for pre-fabrication and modular assembly to reduce the on-site activities to an effective minimum.

Energy management considerations are always given close attention during the design process, and where there are options of sophistication in this respect or where conflict occurs between lowest first cost and in-service running cost the matter is the subject of informed debate with client-side representatives.

All installed systems are fully commissioned in accordance with recognised Codes of Practice and performance demonstrated for the customer’s satisfaction.

Conder M&E recognises the success of any projects it undertakes starts with a design commensurate with the client’s specification and requirements. To this end the in house CAD engineers and designers, supplemented by external design partners, offer a comprehensive and flexible approach to delivering a tailored solution.

Mindful that all projects have a cost implication, Conder M&E will use value engineering techniques during the development of the design to ensure that unnecessary cost are eliminated and that the client is getting best value for money. However the most significant value improvements can be found early on prior to the design entering into an advanced development stage.

Our estimating team offers a varied wide ranging service working closely with design and engineering functions which enables them to assist in pre construction development through sign off and to instigate construction delivery. Bids are formulated using the latest estimating software packages on single and multi disciplined services projects inclusive of all in house and sub contract work elements. Prior to submission all bids are adjudicated with the senior management team.  

At construction stage our qualified engineers take over full responsibility for the management of the project. With the assistance of the Health & Safety manager and the QA manger a comprehensive Health & Safety Environmental plan will be established, delivery of information such as builders work drawings, working drawings, method statements, sample approvals, test commissioning and inspection plans, plant and equipment procurement schedules, O&M manuals and record drawings are managed to the requirement of the project. From the outset our engineers work closely with the main contractor on programme delivery coordinating all specialist suppliers and sub contractors and our own on site teams to achieve a successful ultimate client outcome.
 
Conder M&E has always and continues to employ its own labour force with an annual apprentice intake policy to be proud of. With some 200 operatives covering mechanical electrical and plumbing disciplines, Conder M&E can be sure the whole installation process will deliver an outcome second to none.
 
Conder M&E has long since recognised its subcontractors and suppliers are vital to successful project delivery. Embarking on a policy to develop a preferred supply chain that identifies like minded companies with the technical competence and resource to collaborate has allowed those selected early integration to projects where their expertise and added value can be realised.
